IMFM’2025
Towards a Breakthrough for the Development of Phytotherapy
Welcome to the Sultanate of Oman, a nation guided by the ambitious roadmap for sustainable development, economic diversification, and innovation. Rooted in its rich heritage and strategic location, Oman is embracing a future driven by knowledge, research, and environmental stewardship. As the country advances in science, technology, and sustainability, it remains committed to preserving its cultural identity while fostering global collaboration. This conference aligns with Oman’s vision by promoting dialogue, research, and partnerships that contribute to a prosperous and resilient future.
The Dhofar, historical region in southern Oman, extending from Cape Al-Sharbatāt on the coast of the Arabian Sea southwestward to Oman. The Dhofar region is renowned for its rich biodiversity, hosting over 800 plant species, including more than 250 known medicinal plants. This unique ecosystem, particularly in the elevated areas, is home to valuable resources such as frankincense (Oliban), derived from various species of Boswellia, including Boswellia sacra and Boswellia frereana. Historically, these natural products have been pivotal in traditional medicine and have significantly influenced modern pharmacology. It is estimated that approximately 50% of pharmaceuticals originate from natural sources, underscoring the importance of continued exploration in this area.
In line with its mission to foster research and innovation, Dhofar University in partnership with Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is excited to announce the 3rd International Meeting on Frankincense and Medicinal Plants (3rd IMFM, 2025) hybrid Mode (Physical & Online), scheduled for 14th-16th September 2025. These gathering aims to build upon the success of the previous two meetings, bringing together esteemed researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers to explore the rich medicinal potential of Dhofar’s flora. The event will feature keynote speeches from leading experts, plenary sessions, poster presentations, and exhibitions, creating a platform for collaboration among researchers, clinicians, local growers, and entrepreneurs. Our goal is to enhance the recognition of frankincense and other medicinal plants as vital components of global cultural heritage and their potential in addressing contemporary health challenges.
Dhofar University invites all interested to join us in this exciting endeavor to unlock the therapeutic secrets of Dhofar’s botanical wealth and contribute to the advancement of research and development in this crucial field.
